Sorry it’s been a while!

Hi guys!

I sincerely apologize about having not posted for so long.  However, as a fourth year university student, currently writing my dissertation, I’ve had to deal with a massive increase in work.  On top of that, I’ve been traveling and my laptop broke for a while, so all in all, it was lucky for me to even be able to get online to check my e-mail, let alone write a blog post.

Unfortunately, I’m not writing a full post right now.  However, this is a promise post that this week, when I get the time (and unfortunately it might not even be til Saturday), I will write a full one.  However, it will be a bit of a catch up, to let you guys know where I’m standing!  Recently I’ve been finishing up two dramas that have been absolute pleasures to watch.  One is a kdrama, and the other a jdrama, and both are absolutely amazing, and should be given a chance by everyone.

Firstly, the Kdrama, Answer Me 1997, or alternately known as Reply 1997.

30 Day Jdrama Challenge: Day 6

Hi guys!  So sorry I haven’t been keeping up to date with my blog!  I was travelling for a few days, and then I had to  go back to university, which has been completely mad, so I have a feeling it’s going to be a bit harder for me to make regular posts on here.  However, I’m really going to try to make at least one post a week, and if I have more time/inspiration I’ll do more.  I was thinking of recapping the rest of the jdrama Sprout, but for some reason I can’t find an eng sub version of ep 8.  If anyone knows about it, then please let me know so I can watch it!

Because I’m so busy, this will be a really quick post in the thirty day jdrama challenge.  I’m on Day 6: favorite song from a jdrama ost.  I (yet again) can’t pick one, so here are just some of my favorites!  Enjoy!

30 Day Jdrama Challenge: Day 5

Your Favorite Female Third Wheel!

Ok, so to be completely honest, I’m a little stuck on this one.  I have one or two characters in mind, but overwhelmingly I find female third wheels to be annoying, ridiculous creatures who do nothing but dumb down the narrative of the drama.  I don’t know why male third wheels are written as depressing heart throbs whereas the girls are portrayed as backstabbing freaks with no conscience, but for some reason, a huge majority of female third wheels are borderline evil psychopaths or completely one dimensional with no personality whatsoever.  Look at Sprout, for example.  I enjoy the love story, love the third wheel boy (ok, let’s be honest, they’re the OTP), but I friggin hate the third wheel girl.  Honestly half the time I watch the drama I’m imagining throwing darts at her forehead, and if I wasn’t so concerned about the screen of my laptop, I might actually be trying to inflict damage to her 2D face.

I HATE her. Not the actress, the character (fanboys please don’t kill me I’m sure she’s lovely in real life). I would be so happy if her character “accidentally fell” (*cough* I didn’t push her I swear *cough*) off a cliff

Therefore, I will write this post with the small amount of female third wheels I like, as well as including a few secondary females who weren’t in awkward love triangles but still deserve appreciation, because they were awesome and lovely, and did not try to destroy any of my favorite OTPs.

30 Day JDorama Challenge: Day 04

Your Favorite Male Third Wheel!

So I realize that I have utterly failed at doing this 30 Day Challenge in 30 days, but I don’t really care.  It’s still a good exercise to get me to write when I don’t feel like it!

So on Day 2 of this challenge, when I was supposed to do my favorite male lead, I basically did a compilation of every single Japanese male character I’ve ever liked.  I realize that was a bit overkill, and not exactly what I was supposed to do.  I am therefore going to try to limit myself for this post!  Third wheel will literally just mean a male who is in a love triangle, and ends up losing out (but I still shipped and loved him furiously anyways).

So, without further ado… My favorite male third wheels in a Japanese drama!  (Like always this is a list, not just one.  I have issues picking favorites).

Rescue Review

If you guys follow my tumblr (you few loyal diehards!  I love you all!!) then you’ll know that recently I finished watching the drama Rescue.  I was recommended to watch it by the lovely Gollumisbeautiful, whose tumblr is just a thing of beauty (honestly check it out if you like Japanese guys!!) because she knows I have a mild obsession (ok, maybe not so MILD) with Yamamoto Yusuke.  This obsession has in past led me to watching some of the most ridiculous shows on earth.  Recently I started trying to watch Nankyoku Tairiku for him, and let’s face it, the only good thing about that drama is the dogs.

So, anyways, I finished the drama Rescue in about a week after downloading it, and I’ve decided to review it.  I’ll try to keep this post as short and sweet as I can, but I have a tendency to air on the wordy side of short, so let’s see how well I keep to that!

Again, this is going to have some spoilers, though not too many, but if you don’t want to know some of the finer points of this show, finish watching it til you look at this!

Bizarre Feelings on the Drama Sprout

Ok, so the last time I mentioned what dramas I was watching, I briefly discussed my feelings on the first two episodes of Sprout here.  I wasn’t particularly complimentary, I’m not going to lie.  Many of the issues I had with the drama still remain, i.e. that it takes itself way too seriously, the romance is slightly maudlin (I mean, what, Miyuki hugs some other guy just because Souhei looked at Miku? Call me crazy but that’s SERIOUSLY possessive behavior, and borderline psychotic!), and people really need to learn to smile more!!! However, this show has somehow, bizarrely, hooked me.  I don’t know why or how.  I don’t even really like it when I’m watching it all the time.  I find myself eye-rolling through large portions of it, but the rest of it, I’m squealing and giggling like a little 12-year-old girl.  The logic of the show is nonexistent, and the acting is very very limited (though serviceable for the most part).  However, when each episode is over, I’m left with a bittersweet feeling that makes me want more.

***btw, spoilers for episode 6 and 7 are below, so if you haven’t watched the show yet, beware!!****

All that’s wrong in the kpop world: pseudo-child pornography tied up with a ribbon

Oh, kpop.  How I love you, and how I hate you.  There are times when I come home after a long day, and new kpop songs can brighten me up.  I have spent many an afternoon dancing to Bingeul Bingeul and Mr. Simple with my flatmate in the kitchen, professing my love to G Dragon, and wishing I was as pretty and badass as 2ne1 and SNSD.  But at times, kpop can break my heart with some of the worst, most ridiculously horrible crap I have ever seen.

Skarf is a brand spanking new band, which is half Singaporean and half Korean (hence the K instead of the c in the word scarf.  REALLY!?? WAE YOU CHOOSE TO NAME THESE BANDS SO BADLY SOMETIMES!? WAE!??).  They’re apparently going for the cutesy vibe, which I have a tendency to hate with a fiery passion on the best of days.  However, occasionally it wins me over!  Honest!  I don’t dislike Dal Shabet!  I actually like A Pink.  SNSD’s Oh and Genie are two of my favorite songs.  However, SKarf’s Oh! Dance is not one of the few “cute” exceptions.  This song is going down on my list of HATE FOREVER, PLEASE NEVER MAKE A MV OR SONG LIKE THIS EVER AGAIN!!

Super Junior Spy

I had a pretty busy weekend, hanging out with family and dealing with some stuff I’d been putting off for a while, so last night when I turned on my computer I just wanted something quick to look at before going to bed.  And what did I find?  A little present from youtube saying *NEW SUPER JUNIOR MV*.  I feel like I’ve been waiting for the Spy mv for ages.  I mean, Suju already made their comeback on a music show with the song, but for some reason the mv was nowhere to be found.  I don’t know what the delay was about, but I’m so glad it’s finally out.

30 Day Jdrama Challenge Day 03

So I realized that I did my last list slightly incorrectly.  I was supposed to write my favorite male LEAD not my favorite any type of guy.  Whoops.  I have a feeling some of the other posts for this challenge will be slightly truncated due to yesterday’s enthusiasm.  So for this version (favorite female lead) I’m going to make sure the woman is actually the lead, not some noisy pesky second character. However, like yesterday, I refuse to just pick one (cos I’m a brat, leave me alone).  This will be a compilation of my favorite female leads.

So without further ado!  My Favorite Female Characters

Nakama Yukie as Yankumi in Gokusen (all seasons)

30 Day Jdrama Challenge Day 2

Favorite Male Lead Character

DOHHH I think I’m going to have to revise my 30 day challenge idea.  I can’t pick a favorite.  I don’t know why I thought I could.  I should have been realistic but instead I was stupid and ignored the fact that I get emotionally attached to teacups, so the idea of picking favorites has me sweating and crying within seconds.  Instead I’ve decided I’m going to pick not one favorite but my favorites (the plurality is key) in a category, and then maybe after I write the WHOLE post I’ll pluck up the courage and single out one character *while silently crying and begging forgiveness from the rest of them*.

So without further ado!

Yamamoto Yusuke’s Wataru

mind you his abs don’t HURT this situation at all…

This probably doesn’t surprise anybody.  Tumbling is one of my favorite dramas on earth.  Yamamoto Yusuke is one of my favorite people on earth.  The boy can do no wrong.  I have a secret fantasy that him and Daito Shunsuke and I are all flatmates and we get up to loads of delectable hijinks and then he falls in love with me and we get married and have lots of really cute babies (and Shunsuke’s the awkward third wheel/uncle).  My love for him has been longstanding, but it was really cemented after watching this show, and seeing this character.  I love Wataru who plays the delinquent, mildly idiotic leader of a gang in high school, but when he realizes he needs to take a sports credit in order to graduate, he chooses Tumbling. He falls so hard for the sport that his sincerity and enthusiasm transforms this ragtag group of outcasts into a big family who support each other in their dreams and hardships. Wataru is the heart and soul of the drama, and I honestly wish people like him existed in real life.  He goes for what he wants.  He believes nothing is more important than his friends.  He has the biggest heart on earth, and even though he’s a bit awkward and tough on the outside, he wouldn’t hurt a flea.  I love him so much!
