I realize that this is a departure from my usual *Asian male centric* posts, but I couldn’t help it, sorry guys! I promise to come at you with more of my normal posts soon!
Can we just pause and appreciate how awesome the female characters in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are? I realize this is an old film, and many points like this may have been brought up already, but as I’m now rewatching (for probably about the 60th time) this film, I just have to talk about the female characters and how awesome they are. In a shockingly large amount of romantic films, comedic films, hell films in general, women are portrayed as one dimensional, love-struck idiots who are ‘completed’ by their male counterparts and have nothing better to do than search for love. This film is an ‘indie’ romance film. Obviously, romance is centric. However, depicted within this romance, there is a depth to the female characters that is shockingly unique compared to most films nowadays.
First, you get the main female Clementine, played by the amazing Kate Winslet.
So I realized that I did my last list slightly incorrectly. I was supposed to write my favorite male LEAD not my favorite any type of guy. Whoops. I have a feeling some of the other posts for this challenge will be slightly truncated due to yesterday’s enthusiasm. So for this version (favorite female lead) I’m going to make sure the woman is actually the lead, not some noisy pesky second character. However, like yesterday, I refuse to just pick one (cos I’m a brat, leave me alone). This will be a compilation of my favorite female leads.
So without further ado! My Favorite Female Characters
DOHHH I think I’m going to have to revise my 30 day challenge idea. I can’t pick a favorite. I don’t know why I thought I could. I should have been realistic but instead I was stupid and ignored the fact that I get emotionally attached to teacups, so the idea of picking favorites has me sweating and crying within seconds. Instead I’ve decided I’m going to pick not one favorite but my favorites (the plurality is key) in a category, and then maybe after I write the WHOLE post I’ll pluck up the courage and single out one character *while silently crying and begging forgiveness from the rest of them*.
So without further ado!
Yamamoto Yusuke’s Wataru
mind you his abs don’t HURT this situation at all…
This probably doesn’t surprise anybody. Tumbling is one of my favorite dramas on earth. Yamamoto Yusuke is one of my favorite people on earth. The boy can do no wrong. I have a secret fantasy that him and Daito Shunsuke and I are all flatmates and we get up to loads of delectable hijinks and then he falls in love with me and we get married and have lots of really cute babies (and Shunsuke’s the awkward third wheel/uncle). My love for him has been longstanding, but it was really cemented after watching this show, and seeing this character. I love Wataru who plays the delinquent, mildly idiotic leader of a gang in high school, but when he realizes he needs to take a sports credit in order to graduate, he chooses Tumbling. He falls so hard for the sport that his sincerity and enthusiasm transforms this ragtag group of outcasts into a big family who support each other in their dreams and hardships. Wataru is the heart and soul of the drama, and I honestly wish people like him existed in real life. He goes for what he wants. He believes nothing is more important than his friends. He has the biggest heart on earth, and even though he’s a bit awkward and tough on the outside, he wouldn’t hurt a flea. I love him so much!
Hey guys! So I realized the reason I wasn’t posting as much as I did in the beginning was because I didn’t really have a structure anymore. Normally I’d probably be making reaction posts about the current dramas I’ve been watching. However, I’m still in the midst of my Supernatural marathon atm, and I don’t really feel like posting about how much I fangirl over Jensen Ackles every time he’s on screen. So, I’ve decided to give myself some structure, I’m going to try the thirty day Jdrama challenge, and then if it goes well, maybe afterwards do the 30 day kdrama challenge!
I know I’ve been absent for the past week *my bad* but I’ve actually been quite busy. Even though it’s summer I’m working on my dissertation for university, which takes up a lot of time researching. Also, I was in Yosemite for the past two days hiking, so I’ve had no time to update. However, I’m BACK!! I have to be honest, I’ve not been watching any Asian dramas in the past week. Instead, in the limited free time I have gotten, I’ve been marathoning Supernatural again. I’m only on Season 2 (I only started watching it this year, I was a late bloomer), but I absolutely love love LOVE Dean, played by Jensen Ackles. I’m normally not a fan of blonde or muscly men, but boy is he an exception. He has friggin beautiful eyes. And as you probably all know if you’ve read other posts from this blog, I love characters who are gruff and unable to express emotions well, but have a soft side deep down, so I officially love Dean. Also, he’s hilarious!!
so much approval right now
However, moving on from Supernatural, I was thinking of doing a little kpop update again. There haven’t been many songs that I like out recently, so this will be a small post!
Time for… My Favorite K Actors!!!! Male Edition. So, like my fave J-actors post, this will lean heavily towards the young and pretty. That’s just the type of shows I watch *sorry if you’re interested in something more mature*. Again, this list is in no particular order.
This man is just all kinds of pretty. I’m glad he’s beginning to get popular through Gaksital, though I’m happy to say I’ve been his fan for a while. He’s what kept Ojakyo Brothers interesting. The man manages to emote like none other. His crying makes other people cry, which is a very valuable skill as an actor. I’ve only watched one episode of Gaksital so far, but I was seriously impressed by him. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of him as a leading man to others.
I realize it’s fairly traditional for new blogs to showcase their top ten favorites of whatever they happen to be blogging about. However, I’m lazy and refuse to limit myself to ten, so instead this will be part one of a series of my favorites, this time focusing on Japanese actors of the male variety *wink wink* (no this is not just an excuse for me to put in pictures of shirtless men, they all do genuinely have great acting skills).
This list is in no particular order, but I do want to put a warning note beforehand. Most of the dramas I watch are youth/rom-com oriented. Therefore this actor list tips very heavily in favor of pretty younger guys. I’m not saying they’re any better than older Japanese actors, but that’s just the type of shows I’ve watched *so deal with it!*
